You just can’t avoid noticing the variety of pillows in the stores today. They vary in size and shape. More importantly, they vary in the material used for filling. The less expensive ones have synthetic and polyester fills. Others have natural fills such as feathers and down. There is a host of others that combine the natural with the synthetic.
Goose down pillows are more expensive than other kinds of pillows. Are they worth it? ‘Down’ refers to the insulating layer of soft plumage under the feathers of geese. When used as pillow fillers what you feel is a smooth surface without lumps. It is more expensive because it can only be harvested from certain parts of the bird, specifically the wings and back. To soften the price a bit, feathers are used in combination with down. You still experience surface softness helped by the volume of the feathers.
