Not all birds feed on seeds. The hummingbird feeds on nectar from flowers. To assure steady supply of the nectar a solution of sugar and water is provided to keep the little bird from dehydration. Sometimes food coloring is added to make it more attractive.

The hummingbird feeder can be easily made from recycled materials and a few simple tools. Bore holes in the cap of an empty bottle. Fill the bottle with sweet syrup and turn it upside down on a round shallow pan. The pan will always be filled with the water and the hummingbird will never go thirsty. If you would rather buy a hummingbird feeder, you will surely find an appropriate one from your favorite pet store.
