purple martin bird house

I have lived in the city most of my life. I lived in an apartment building for nearly 25 years. When I finally moved to a house in the suburbs, there were several things I had to get used to. I bought a house which was built back in the late 80s. The house had a porch and a yard with a purple martin bird house.
I learned that having a purple martin bird house was very common. Apparently, the neighborhood had gotten used to housing thousands of these birds every year. I did not even know what a purple martin was until my neighbor told me all about them. Purple martins were swallows that like to hand around the backyards of many North Americans. I did not realize that having a house in the suburbs meant I would also house birds.
