The purple martin is the largest North American swallow with a length measuring up to 20 centimeters. These birds are known to be aerial acrobats as they are agile and fast. When they approach their house, they will dive from the sky with their wings tucked at great speeds.
Purple martins are monogamous birds. They are popular birds because they make a lovely chirping sound. A purple martin birdhouse is usually hexagonal in shape with its floor easily detachable for easy cleaning. It is made of heat dissipating aluminum and can come in 6 or more rooms.
