From a home decorating perspective, the term wrought iron is used to refer to ornamental pieces that are made for decoration. Wrought iron decor is created from iron that has been worked into a finished product. Most décor however, are commonly made of mild steel, which is a combination of iron and a small amount of carbon. This metal has the same properties as pure iron, soft and easy to form, but is relatively more affordable.

In the early centuries, wrought iron was only used in protecting windows and doors from intruders. It was only around the 16th century when wrought iron became more popular in home decorating. Thus, it is a timeless material that is ideal to be sued for items both inside and outside the home.
