Sources of Soil Nutrients

A soil testing report will make recommendations for soil management based on what you intend to grow. Suggestions may include the best proportion of the nutrients needed. It will also advise on the right pH of the soil. This can be achieved through fertilizers and compost. Since we are all for growing plants organically, it will come mostly from compost.
What you put in your compost will determine its composition. Nitrogen-rich materials are necessary ingredients. These can come from fresh grass clippings, coffee grounds and kitchen scraps. Horse, cow and chicken manure are good sources of nitrogen. Carbon materials are also essential to compost because they are the microorganism’s source of energy. Common composting materials rich in carbon are shredded newspapers, dead leaves and sawdust.
