Thread painting apparently goes by many names. Its techniques and variants can be called punch, punch needle embroidery, Russian embroidery, and Bunka. But whatever name you may want to refer to it, it’s a fun and a very creative hobby.

An expert on this kind of embroidery recommends the use of a 14 or 18 count Aida cloth. The punch needle embroidery patterns will be rubber stamped on the cloth. Using a hoop while embroidering is very much helpful since you’ll need a steady and firm area while working on your design. The best size for the hoop is four inches, the expert says.
