candle holder

Growing up in the country, we often went without electricity for days on end. Soon as dusk started falling, my mother would set out her favorite candle holder and light a candle. It was an heirloom that has been passed down from generation to generation. We had a lot of other candle holders but that one would always be placed on top of our fireplace mantel. I remember how my mother would gather us around her to tell stories.

Those were the best days of my life. We had a very simple life but we never felt deprived. We never felt wanting for anything else. We’ve long since moved into the city. I’ve grown up and bought a house of my own. But every single time we visit our parents, we still see that candle holder and remember the good old times.
