Chaos seems to be a way of life for some. They don’t seem to realize that an orderly room aside from being aesthetically presentable results in less stress, more extra time because you don’t waste time looking for things. Keeping an orderly room is a matter of habit. When he gets the hang of things, it will take only a few minutes daily to keep things in order. This can be done before going to bed so that he can wake up to an uncluttered room in the morning.
Maybe it will encourage the young teenager to be more attentive to the tidiness of his room if you volunteer to redecorate his room. Storage space is most important. Get his opinion on how he wants to organize his stuff then hie off to the storage store and get inexpensive but functional pieces. Add a few things that will perk up the walls. A funky light switch cover or a poster of his favorite matinee idol will do just that.
