Quilting said to have started during the Crusades. Quilts were initially made for a much more relevant purpose rather than for decoration. Women made quilts for soldiers’ protection form cold and/or as an additional lining beneath their armor. Today however, quilting has become a popular display of creativity for women. It has joined the ranks of cross stitching, embroidery, knitting as a popular needlework past time.

Quilting has become a well-known hobby for women. Usual patterns would include quilted table runner, bedspread, throw pillow cases, and other décor for homes. Quilting has become so popular in the US over the years. In fact, there monthly magazines that feature vintage and contemporary quilt patterns to cater to professional quilters and hobbyists. Besides published magazines, websites on quilting are increasing.
