Have you ever gone to a gym and had your weight taken? Usually the more sophisticated gyms do more than just make you step on a scale. They show you a chart and tell you where your weight is relevant to your height. These charts are sometimes referred to as BMI scales. BMI stands for body mass index. The BMI scales tell you that if this is your height, your weight should be within a give range.

The BMI scales are based on the average weight a person with a certain height should have. It estimates your supposed body mass index. We all know that people are built differently, we may have the same height we all have different body types. This is why the BMI scales cover a range of weights that would best fit a certain height. It does not necessarily mean that you are overweight or underweight if your weight does not fall within the given range.
