If you’re a practicing Catholic then you probably are familiar with what happens during a mass. Every once in a while during special Eucharistic celebrations, you will see the priest carrying incense and blessing the altar with it. Not all Catholics however know exactly what incense is. Incense is a fragrant substance which comes from certain trees and mostly used for religious worship. Incense is also used to indicate the smoke or perfume coming out of the incense when burned.

Incense today however is no longer limited to religious services. You can even buy incense in craft stores, home stores and candle shops. Incense is now used to freshen up homes, patios and gardens. Incense can come in sticks; the ends are burned and placed on a holder. The aromatic incense can also ward away insects.
