For the old fashioned cooks, no electronic grillers, steamers or fryers will replace traditional cooking equipment. For the purists, a dutch oven is just as important as a frying pan or a sauce pan. A dutch oven is cast iron cooking pot with a tight fitting lid. Some people use it cook rice. There are 2 basic types of dutch ovens: the first are those that have legs and the second type are the flat ones with no legs. The flat ones are generally thicker and heavier than the regular dutch oven.

When buying a dutch oven, first make sure that the lid fits properly and tightly. The lid has to be tight so that you can be sure that the steam stays inside the oven at all times. When choosing the first type of dutch ovens, check that the legs are thick and fat. There are also ovens with smooth cast and others with rough cast. If you are not an expert chef, it is best to stick to the smooth cast. It is easier to clean as well.
