Radiant barrier

There are several ways of reducing the cost of energy use in homes. One is by installing a solar power system. An ambitious plan is to set up a system to cover most of the needs of an average home – lighting the inside and outside of the house; heating water for bathroom and kitchen use. In some cases the set up is meant to cover just a portion of the household’s energy needs. Partially reducing the cost of energy is already one step forward.

Another way is to mind the insulation of the home. Home insulation works both in hot and cold seasons. In the summer it reduces heat gain; in the winter it prevents heat loss. The objective of installing insulation in homes is to reduce expense for energy use. This can be achieved by installing radiant barriers. Radiant barrier is often installed in attics. It consists of a highly reflective material that reflects radiant heat rather than absorb it.
