Solar power is available to anyone who is interested to benefit from it. It can provide most of their electrical needs; it can also be just a backup to supplement regular consumption. It has practical uses in certain remote locations around the home. Setting up a solar energy system can be done by a professional. DIY solar energy is also available and more and more people are turning to it as a home project.
A solar energy system will require four basic components. These are the solar panels, a charge controller, a power Inverter, and the storage batteries. Solar panels supply the electricity and charge the batteries. A charge controller is needed to prevent overcharging of the batteries. The power inverter is the heart of the system. It makes 120 volts AC from the 12 volts DC stored in the batteries. Last are the storage batteries. They store the electrical power in the form of a chemical reaction. You will also need appropriate wires and cables that will connect everything.
