How convenient to have hot water flowing into your home without giving much thought to the energy bill that will come at the end of the month. You can bathe, wash your clothes and cook as much as you care. This is possible with the installation of basic solar water heaters. The basic set-up consists of a heat-trapping solar collector in an open space. The roof is the most ideal location for this.
This is connected to a water tank inside the house. In cold locations, a pump circulates an antifreeze liquid through a closed loop. A submerged coil inside the tank transfers the heat from the sun-warmed liquid to the household water supply. Potable water may also be heated directly by the collector. Under ideal conditions water can be heated to 150 to 200 degrees.
